Department Organization
The West Norriton Township Police Department is currently comprised of 27 sworn officers. The department is lead by the chief of police who is the executive officer of the Police Department. The deputy chief is second in command of the department and is in charge of day-to-day operations of the various divisions and the school resource officer. The divisions consist of patrol, detective, and support staff.
The Patrol Division is comprised of four platoons, each consisting of a sergeant, a corporal, and three patrol officers. The Detective Unit is comprised of a sergeant and three detectives, one of whom is specifically assigned to investigate incidents involving juveniles. The school resource officer is assigned to the Norristown Area High School.
Ancillary Duties
Many officers have ancillary duties, which include traffic safety, special weapons and tactics, bicycle patrol, major incident response, range instruction, weapons maintenance, taser instruction, self defense instruction, and first aid instruction.
